Separated at birth! Fresh is a damn weird movie--and I'm not sure I mean that in "the good sense"--though I remember really liking Giancarlo Esposito's performance.

It has this odd tone that makes it feel very removed from the real world. Normally, movies that deal with this subject and that use a lot of slang tend to strive for an immediacy that says "This is what the real world is like" and establishes "authenticity." Fresh is, in keeping with its themes, more like watching a game of chess, which is sort of odd considering everything that happens during that "game."
